My experience from the day I walked into orientation to the day I graduated was a life changing experience. The staff and teachers showed an abundance of love and care for my progression in the trade and post-graduation.
From segment 1, not knowing anything about plumbing to being able to get 3 Top Tech Awards and reach segment 6 being comfortable in my trade. The teachers in this school guide you every step of the way. Apex job placement assistance program is one of the best in the city because they helped me get hired one day before graduating even though the company was not the right fit for me. Teachers in this school are willing to go out of their way to help me find new employment because they want me to grow as a Plumber and person. I believe that coming to Apex was one of the best choices I’ve made in a while and hope others can take the jump and discover something new.

My experience at Apex was more than I could've imagined. The thought of going back to school in my early 30's was both intimidating and exciting. From the very first day of shop class I knew…  "I’m in good hands", surrounded by teachers and staff with both a welcoming presence and a wealth of knowledge from hands-on experience. Thanks to my time at Apex I've established bonds with my classmates, a trade skill I can keep building upon, and a solid foundation for my future!

My name is Tyree Damian Joshua, and I am a recent graduate of Apex Technical School. I first graduated from the Welding program before enrolling and graduating from the Construction program. I made the choice to pursue a trade program at Apex shortly after moving to New York City to discover that I didn't stand a chance in the job market without obtaining some sort of trade credentials to present to potential employers. Now that I've graduated from both programs, I am now eligible to obtain employment I was never qualified for.
I chose a program that I enjoyed and found challenging. I’m now aspiring to utilize these skills I learned at Apex in the job market.

First lesson on day one at Apex Technical School- “it's what we do!” screamed Mr. Mack, the legendary segment 1 teacher, retired Local 3 Journeyman. You’ll learn that “being an electrician is more than just a blue- collar trade, it's a lifestyle and brotherhood”.
Mr. Tansky, our department head always said, “it's mandatory to learn being early and getting a head start on the day makes all the difference and that preparation is key”.
Mr. Mack walks in on time and gives us the opportunity to get our head start towards Top Tech. My partner and I are already by the door ready to go. We start searching for the most pristine receptacles and getting our measurements prepared to be done before lunch with our projects and then go back and help any other brother from falling behind. We don't leave each other behind, we are a team, we are a unit, we are brothers.

You will learn to take from each teacher different skills and good habits will be instilled. I can say I learned Mr. Max’s braid splicing and perfect wire hoops, and that Mr. Allen is “Picasso”, literally with job plan drawings, wire diagrams and job cleanliness. He will make sure your work becomes exceptional and marketable. Mr. Crossen, another Local 3 Journeyman, the absolute pipe bender teacher, will make sure that that before you leave segment 3 you are fully prepared to work for any commercial company, but before you get there, you will already have the tools and understanding of how to wire an entire house from just the first two months.
Mr. Watson will teach you how to efficiently take notes on the theory behind the NEC, the National Energy Code regulations and safety procedures -it’s the Electrician’s Bible that changes every 3 years-you will learn from him that an electrician never stops learning.
You will leave Apex with so many jewels and the power and understanding that you can build a new life for yourself and your family. At Apex, you get hands-on experience and a lifetime worth of education as a tradesman. See the future that you can create with your own two hands at Apex!
